15 Uses For Ketchup That Will Change Your Life

When you think of ketchup, you probably think of that quintessential dipping sauce for french fries or the amplifier to burgers and hotdogs, right? What about cooking with Ketchup? 

This all-american condiment deserves to be the star of the show in your cooking, especially gourmet ketchups.  Gourmet mustards have been a trend for a long time. Now there's a new kid on the block, gourmet ketchups! These artisanal ketchups from Fine Vines feature interesting flavors like Grill Smoke, Sriracha, Thai Ginger, Black Truffle, and of course..The Original.

Beyond the typical french fry dipping sauce, there are so many cool uses for ketchup in the kitchen. We'd like to share a few recipes with you and our favorite uses for ketchup.

  • Homemade BBQ Sauce- Add some liquid smoke and your favorite spices to create your own masterpiece.
  • Cocktail Sauce- Ketchup and Horseradish Sauce, mixed together.  
  • Cheesesteaks-  A Philly Favorite!
  • Stuffed Peppers-  Similar to sloppy joes, but stuffed into a pepper
  • Chili-  Add your favorite spices, beans, and meat.
  • Beefaroni-  Mac-n-cheese with a tomato base.
  • Salisbury Steak- Add ketchup to the sauce.
  • Pasta dishes- Marinara sauces come from tomatoes, so why not ketchup?
  • Bloody Mary's- Yep you heard that right;)
  • Salad Dressings- Thousand Island, Russian, and Catalini
  • Baked Beans- Ketchup, beans, brown sugar and spices.
  • Copper Polisher!!!-  You heard me right.  From Mac Kohler at Brooklyn Copper, mix ketchup and fine sea salt into a paste and rub onto copper.  After a couple of minutes, wipe clean and voila!

Thai Ginger Vegetable Stir-Fry Recipe

This quick and easy Asian infused stir-fry is chocked full of fresh vegetables and flavor. The Fine Vines® Thai Ginger Artisanal Ketchup is the star of the show in this dish.

In no time, you'll have a delicious vegetarian stir-fry meal!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Fine Vines® Thai Ginger Artisanal Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (such as Sriracha)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bunch scallions, thinly sliced
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into one-inch pieces
  • 1 bunch asparagus, cut into one-inch pieces
  • 2 cups snow peas, de-stemmed
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into one-inch pieces
  • 1 cup bean sprouts

Preparation

Combine ketchup, soy sauce, water, vinegar, chili sauce, sesame oil, and sesame seeds and set aside.

Bring large pot of water to a boil. Blanch broccoli, asparagus, snow peas, and bell pepper for one minute. Remove and place in water bath.

Heat oil over medium in wok or large sauté pan. Saute garlic and scallions for two minutes. Add remaining vegetables and cook for five minutes, stirring frequently. Add stir-fry sauce and cook for two more minutes.

Serve with steamed rice and side of Fine Vines® Thai Ginger Artisanal Ketchup.

Grilled Shrimp Salad with Tomato Vinaigrette Recipe

This grilled salad made with fresh tomatoes, sweet corn, peppery arugula, tangy goat cheese, succulent shrimp and then adorned with a bright tomato vinaigrette, is the epitome of summer's bounty.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Fine Vines® Artisanal Ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons sherry vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon minced tarragon
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound large shrimp
  • 10 ounces of arugula
  • 8 ounces of cherry tomatoes
  • 2 ears of corn
  • 4 ounces of goat cheese

Preparation

Whisk together ketchup, vinegar, water, tarragon, salt, pepper, and olive oil.

Heat grill to 700 degrees. Season shrimp and corn with salt and pepper and grill over high heat. For shrimp, grill for approximately three minutes, flipping halfway through. For corn, grill approximately eight minutes, until moderately charred. When finished, cut corn from cob and set shrimp aside.

Toss arugula, tomatoes, corn, shrimp, and half of vinaigrette. Plate salad and top with crumbled goat cheese. Drizzle with additional vinaigrette.

Artisanal Sloppy Joe Recipe

Cook Time:  25 minutes

Sloppy Joes, a thing of the past?  Absolutely not!  This saucy meat sandwich will "wow' even the most picky eaters and is the perfect meal for those busy nights, game day munchies, an outdoor barbecue, or any casual gathering.   It's also the perfect medium for hiding vegetables (not that I've ever done that;) The Five Vines® Artisanal Ketchup, elevates this recipe to the next level.

Serve this sandwich with our Herbed Corn on the Cob and our fruity applesauce for a complete meal.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 large onion, diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 tablespoons Fine Vines® Artisanal Ketchup


Preparation
In a large skillet, heat oil over medium ­high heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic.
Season with salt and pepper. Cook until vegetables are softened, about five minutes.


Add ground beef to the skillet and cook an additional five minutes. Add tomato sauce and Fine Vines®
Artisanal Ketchup
.  Simmer until thickened, about 10 minutes.


Serve on toasted buns. Filling can be made up to one day ahead.
